There have been many changes here at Ash Knoll Farm since this was last updated over 4 years ago.

November 24, 2013

Yesterday Carolyn took 3 year old Kaiya out to her first ever competition under-saddle.  It was only her second time off the farm in a year and her first time in a dressage arena.  Proving what a terrific youngster she is, the cold, windy day and busy atmosphere didn't phase her at all.  She earned great scores of 69.1% and 70.6% on her two dressage tests.

Earlier this week we heartbreakingly had to put down our wonderful foundation broodmare Paksenarrion.  She lead a wonderful life and it brought us some peace to bury her at the same farm where she was born, and right next to her dam Jessica.  Her legacy will live on through her amazing offspring.

This past weekend Carolyn took Ianto to his last outing of the season, a jumper show at Fox Chase Farm.  He was super in all of his rounds, and it was a thrill to bring home the Reserve Championship in a division of 15+ entries.

The past two days at Fair Hill were absolutely amazing.  Jayvyn handled the big, chaotic atmosphere so well.  The highlight was the jumping phase were he put in an amazing round over the toughest course he has seen, and was rewarded with top scores, which earned him a final placing of 8th.  The highlight was him receiving a score of 8.6 for potential as a successful CCI3*/CCI4* horse.  Carolyn was the only amateur to place in the ribbons for YEH, and to do so on our homebred made it that much more thrilling.  The future certainly looks bright for this terrific youngster.  Photos by Shannon Brinkman.

This past Saturday was a big day for our 4 year old Jayvyn as he went to his first ever event at Morven Park.  He has almost no competition experience, but handled everything like a pro, including his first time in a dressage arena.  He was wonderfully ridden by Kurt Martin, and we are thrilled to say he finished in 4th place in his Beginner Novice division.  Video of his dressage test and a short clip from XC  Photos by GRC Photography.

Unfortunately Catty has sustained an injury to her annular ligament, so while she is recovering her much younger 1/2 brother Jayvyn is filling in.  He went to the Morningside Combined Test yesterday just to do some jumping rounds and he was wonderful.  He behaves with a maturity well beyond his age of 4 years old.  Jayvyn also schooled on their cross-country course and was terrific.  This looks like it could be an exciting year for him.  Video of one of his stadium rounds from yesterday.

March 5, 2013

Carolyn has now returned from her trip to Aiken where she had a wonderful time, and made a lot of progress with both Catty and Ianto.  She kept a blog while on her trip, which can be found here.  A couple highlights of the week were a terrific lesson with Olympian Boyd Martin, and an outstanding cross-country school on both horses at the amazing Gibbes Farm.  The week ended with Carolyn and Catty competing in their first event of the year at Sporting Days Farm at Training level.  They had a wonderful outing including a clear round in show jumping and a clean, fast cross-country round to finish 8th in a competitive division.  The plan now is to compete at Prelim at Morven Park at the end of the month.  Photos by GRC Photography.

February 15, 2013

Despite the cold and dreadful ground conditions we have been hard at working getting ready for the spring season.  Carolyn has been taking regular dressage lessons with Inga Janke.  She has also been taking jumping lessons with Paul Ebersole and Gegi Winslett as her regular trainer is down in Aiken.  Excitingly though Carolyn will be joining her trainer Kurt Martin in Aiken the last week in February.  It should be a fun and educational time for her, and she can't wait to spend the week working with Catty and Ianto in a warmer climate.

Happy New Year!! We are looking forward to a wonderful 2013 here at Ash Knoll Farm. We have lots of plans for the year, and can't wait for the competition season to get started. Wrapping up 2012 Catty earned many year-end awards, especially exciting since she had been away from eventing since 2006.
