The Big Red One
"BJ" is a 1988 15.3 hand Chestnut Gelding by Margie's Beau xx out of Jessica. In his prime he competed in Eventing, Jumpers, and Hunters. He was champion at the Virginia State Horse Show in 3'6" hunters in 2000, member of the Virginia Novice level eventing team at Pony Club Nationals in 1998, and had many successes in children's jumpers. He is now retired, and enjoys spending his days out in the pasture, and reminding the other horses that he is still the boss.
"Paks" was a 1992 15.1 hand Homozygous Black Belgian Warmblood mare by Gottloewe, out of Jessica. She was the National Belgian Warmblood 2 year old futurity winner in 1994. Paks later went on to compete in some local hunter shows successfully before being bred to Eurosport. The two foals produced from these breedings, Valen's Prophecy and Whittington's Cat would go on to win their foal, yearling and two year old classes at the Virginia Belgian Warmblood inspections. Further as a 6 year old Whittington's Cat became an approved mare with the Belgian Warmblood Association and her approval score tied for third in the nation for mares aged 3-6. Her 2008 colt by Torino (Heartbreaker x Cassini I) was Reserve Champion foal for the entire 2008 BWP Keuring Tour. Her 2009 colt by Gatsby (Gonzo I x Seattle Song xx) was named Overall Reserve Grand Champion at his first show ever at the Future Event Horse Competition at Moon Rising Farm. Sadly we had to put Paks down in November 2013, she is greatly missed, but her legacy lives on through her amazing offspring.
"Valen" is a 1998 16.1 hand Black Belgian Warmblood gelding by Eurosport, out of Paksenarrion. His pedigree can be found here. He was very successful in hunter and dressage breed classes. Including a 2nd place in an Open class at the PVDA sport horse breed show, and he had one of the highest scores nationally in the BWP 2 year old futurity. In 2006 Valen earned the BWP Bronze Lifetime Achievement Award for Hunters. Showing his versatility, he earned the BWP Bronze Lifetime Achievement Award for Dressage in 2007. Currently Valen is showing very successfully with his junior owner in the Hunters in Zone 2, and in 2011 he earned the BWP Gold Lifetime Achievement Award for Hunters with his junior owner. In 2012 Valen qualified and pinned in the top 6 at the Pennsylvania National and Washington International Horse Shows in the Junior Hunters. For 2013 Valen competed with his new junior owner, and again had incredible success including placing 3rd and 7th out of 50+ entries in the M&S Children's Hunter Finals.
"Catty" (a full sister to Valen) is a 1999 15.3 hand Dark Bay Belgian Warmblood mare by Eurosport, out of Paksenarrion. She won her foal, yearling, and two year old classes at the Virginia Belgian Warmblood Inspections. In 2005 she was accepted into the BWP mare book, tying for the 3rd highest score in the country for mares of all ages. In 2006 she earned the PHR Silver Stirrup National Championship for Novice level eventing!!! Catty had her first foal in May 2010, a beautiful buckskin tobiano filly by Maxamillion, who tied for high scoring foal at her RPSI inspection. At the same RPSI inspection Catty got a premium score of 49, which was the highest mare score of the day. In 2012 Catty went back to competing in eventing with resounding success. She started the year at Beginner Novice and finished placing 3rd in her first ever Preliminary. She qualified for the American Eventing Championships at Novice level and the USEA Area 2 Championships at Training level. Unfortunately after a great first event in 2013 Catty sustained a pasture injury and missed the rest of the competition season. For 2014 we plan to breed her to hopefully produce an eventing superstar!
Ianto is a 2008 Grey BWP gelding by Torino, out of Paksenarrion. His pedigree can be found here. He was a first premium foal, and tied for the 2nd Highest Scoring Foal in the nation with the BWP in 2008. As a yearling he did well in the Dressage Sport Horse shows and Future Event Horse classes. Ianto also received a terrific score of 78 in the BWP Yearling Futurity, and an outstanding 18 for his topline. As a 2 year old he only showed on the line once, but did well placing 4th in a large 2 year old colts/gelding class at a Dressage Breed Show. In 2012 Ianto started his career showing under-saddle and we were thrilled with his progression through the year. He had terrific success, including many top 3 placings at jumper shows, combined tests and dressage shows. Some highlights include being CDCTA Dressage Series Champion at Intro level and winning the August Morningside CT at Baby Novice. In 2013 Ianto had success competing in his first rated jumper shows at level 0 & 1, including earning ribbons in huge classes. For 2014 we plan to continue showing him in the jumper ring.
Jayvyn is a 2009 Brown BWP gelding by Gatsby, out of Paksenarrion. His pedigree can be found here. He was a first premium foal with the BWP. As a yearling he excelled in the Dressage Sport Horse shows and Future Event Horse classes. His successes include winning Overall Reserve Grand Champion at the FEH competition at Moon Rising Farm out of 22 horses, having the 3rd highest score of the day out of 20 horses at the Waredaca FEH, and placing 3rd twice in two very large Yearling Colts/Geldings classes at the Fair Hill Dressage Breed Shows. In his 2 year old year, Jayvyn won his class at the MDHT FEH competition, and had the 3rd highest score of the day out of 26 entries. Jayvyn was started under-saddle in October 2011. In 2012 he continued his education under-saddle and showed us what a wonderful disposition he has. Jayvyn far exceeded all of our expectations for him in 2013. Some highlights include top placings in his first events at Beginner Novice, earning the USEA Area 2 Beginner Novice Young Horse Champion year-end award, and qualifying and placing in the ribbons at the ultra competitive Young Event Horse East Coast Championships. We can't wait to see what he accomplishes in 2014!
Kaiya is a 2010 Buckskin Tobiano filly by Maxamillion out of Whittington’s Cat. Her pedigree can be found here. At just 10 weeks old Kaiya received an 8.0 for conformation/type, 7.6 for movement, and a 7.8 overall for a Silver Premium from RPSI. This tied her for the highest scoring foal of the inspection. As a yearling she showed successfully in both Dressage Sport Horse Breeding classes and FEH competitions. Kaiya was started under-saddle in the fall of 2012, and has shown to have the absolute best temperament. Due to lack of time we didn't get Kaiya out as much as we wanted in 2013, but when we did she was absolutely amazing. She went to her first competition at the end of the year and despite the windy, frigid temps she was wonderful, and earned great scores of 69.1% and 70.6% on her two dressage tests. We will definitely have to find time to get this lovely filly out competing in 2014.
